Re-certification
The MDS 3.0 RAI Re-certification has been designed to contribute to the continued competence of certified MDS 3.0 professionals. After passing the MDS 3.0 Coordinator Certificate exam, individuals are required to renew their certification every two years.
MDS 3.0 RAI Re-certification Course includes topics such as:
- Current Updates and Changes (e.g. section GG, PPS Discharge Assessments, Quality Reporting)
- Review of Medicare Assessment Scheduling, Setting ARD, Factors Impacting
- Review of Resource Utilization Groups (RUGS) Medicare A Reimbursement, Medicaid, and Managed care
- Unscheduled PPS Assessments (OMRAs)
- Quality Measure Reporting
A participant may achieve re-certification by completing the MDS 3.0 RAI Re-certification Course
Two options are available:
Option 1 – Exam Only (No contact hours will be awarded) – cost: 99.00
- Participants will gain access with login to study materials
- Re-certification exam must be taken within 30 days of registration
- 50 question exam required with 80% passing score
- Two attempts for re-certification is allowed
Option 2 – Live virtual re-certification course plus exam (5 contact hours) – cost: 150.00
- Virtual classes meets for two days, 2.5 hour sessions
- 50 question exam required with 80% passing score
- Re-certification exam must be taken within 30 days of registration
- Two attempts for re-certification exam is allowed
Updated hard copy of RAI manual is available and optional for additional 50.00
Access to an updated RAI users manual will be necessary. This can be achieved by obtaining the downloaded electronic copy from our system at registration. No additional fees apply.

Eligibility Requirements
- Must have current MDS 3.0 Coordinator Certification or the MDS 3.0 RAI Certification from MDS Training Institute
- Certification must be current, up to but not exceeding 30 days after expiration date
This continuing nursing education was approved by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurse Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
5 Contact hours will be awarded
Disclosure: To receive 5 contact hours all participants must complete all of the hours listed above of training in our live or virtual classroom. No partial credits will be allowed. (All planners and presenters have no conflict of interest to report for this course)
